Description

The Kalopanax is native to China, Korea and Japan. It is a medium sized tree that prefers full sun and deep, rich, moist soil. It is used in landscaping as it is uncommon and produces summer flowers. Kalopanax leaves resemble those of sweet gum and some maples, and its fruit ripen in October and are quickly taken away by birds. It can grow to heights of 40-60 ft and develops an oval or rounded crown. The shoots and stems are armed with thorns and even younger trunks will have thorns. (Source: University of Connecticut )
