Description

The Little-leaf Linden is native to much of Europe and western Asia, where it is known by the name ‘small-leaved Lime’. It is widely cultivated in North America as a substitute for the native Tilia cordata (American linden or Basswood) which has a larger leaf; giving it the name little-leaf linden. It can grow between 20-38 m tall and the leaves are distinctly heart-shaped. In early summer it produces small yellow-green flowers in clusters that have a rich heavy scent and are often visited by bees. It is the national tree for both the Czech and Slovak Republics.
